    Fans of historical anime will be interested in knowing about the latest development in The Heike Story. In 2016, Furukawa Hideo translated The Heike Story or Heike Monogatari to modern Japanese. International fans may be aware of popular Japanese literature like The Tale of Genji. This story is equally important to the foundation of Japanese texts. A blind monk Kakuchi is the author of its 14th-century version. Later in 2015, award-winning author Furukawa Hideo translated the work to a readable format.

    The work has been constantly re-invented over time. And the latest version of this is The Heike Story Anime, directed by Yamagata Naoko.     The Heike Story anime will be based on Furukawa Hideo’s version of the text. But it is a new version on its own. The story was set in 13th century Japan. The Genpei War was dividing Japan at that time. Biwa is a young girl who is constantly traveling through the country. But one day, her blind father passed away. Afterward, she meets Taira no Shigemori. The new boy turns out to be the heir to the Taira clan.

    It is established that Taira Clan played a major role during the war. So indirectly, Shigemori feels responsible for the many deaths. Shigemori has supernatural sight. This allows him to see the ghosts being killed in the war. And he believes that Biwa has a similar power. But her power is to declare that the Taira Clan would collapse. Thus, Biwa becomes the one who witnesses the rise and fall of the Taira Clan. It will be interesting to see how the story as old as time is retold as an anime.

    The Heike Story anime released a new visual and a second trailer before its official broadcast in Japan. Studio Science SARU is adapting the series. Naoko Yamada has directed the project. And Yoshida Reiko is in charge of the scripts. In addition to that, Ushio Kensuke composed the music. The last time these three creators collaborated was during A Silent Voice. 

    The second trailer is almost two minutes long, opening with a shot of Biwa’s eye. Moreover, there is a slow-stringed instrument playing in the video.
