  • What Does Dattebayo Mean? Naruto’s Catchphrase Explained

Just how One Piece taught us “I’m Gonna Become The Pirate King!” and My Hero Academia taught us “Plus Ultra,” there is one catchphrase that even the non-anime fans use more often than not. ‘Dattebayo’ is one word that Naruto fans love to use as much as the characters in the anime. But do you know the answer to What Does Dattebayo Mean? Are you too using the phrase without really knowing the meaning of it? Well, then you have come to the right place. Here, not only will you find the meaning of the phrase, but you will also find the origin and usage of Dattebayo.

    Naruto Dub Version

For the fans who have been watching Naruto in the dub version all these years, the term Dattebayo may not sound familiar. Well, that is because this is a Japanese Language term that means something completely different in English. So, Dattebayo originates from words that indicate excitement. In Japanese dubs, using the terms “desu” and “ka” is quite a common phenomenon. Adding such terms at the end of a sentence provides a sense of excitement or spice to any sentence.

This is where the term Dattebayo also comes from. Right from the beginning of the anime, we have seen naruto use the word to indicate a sense of convincing to bring out trust. Further, some of the English dub adaptations dubbed the translation altogether, replacing it with this catchphrase. So, what is the meaning of Dattebayo? Let us find out.

    What Does Dattebayo Mean?

If we are to pay attention to the official translation done by Viz Media, then the meaning of Dattebayo is “Believe It!” However, the biggest problem with finding the meaning behind this term comes from the fact that there is no proper English alternative for the word. There are many different phrases that were used in place of Dattebayo to convey the true meaning. However, none of them truly match the essence of the word.

At some point in the manga, the term is also replaced with “ya know.” In fact, if we are to look closely through the anime and manga, both the English versions had skipped the use of the term altogether. This was sheerly due to the lack of a better alternative in its place.

    What Does Dattebayo Mean

    Dattebayo: The Original Meaning

Dattebayo comes from three to four different terms, all of which convey different meanings. The first one, ‘da’ is a term that is generally used while starting any explanatory sentence. On the other hand, ‘Datte’ is a term that comes from a description that has already been explained. Lastly, the meaning of ‘bayo’ has something to do with trust. Thus in the roughest form, the meaning of Dattebayo comes out to be “Believe It.” Some fans can also trace it to the meaning of “I Told You So.”

Hope this explainer will give you the right meaning for the term Dattebayo. Now that you know the meaning of the term, you can use it more often and in the correct places. Plus, you can also tell your peers about the same. For more such interesting trivia about anime lingo, keep an eye on this space.

  • Is Avatar An Anime? Does It Come From Japan? Where To Watch The Show

Is Avatar An Anime: One question that has been lingering unanswered for many years is what can and cannot be considered anime? In definitive terms, anime is a Japanese term used for any kind of animation work originating from Japan. However, when used in the English context, the word anime holds a wider meaning that counts all animation works regardless of animation style and origin. But if the second definition is taken into account, then anime fans would not take out their knives when someone called their favorite show a ‘cartoon.’

Stuck amid in this debate is a show that wasn’t created in Japan but it does categorize as anime. Yes, we are talking about Avatar The Last Airbender. The 2005 series blurred the lines of American and Japanese animation. This Nickelodeon Animation continues to draw debates on whether it can be called an anime or not. So, Is Avatar An Anime? Let’s find out the answer to this.

    By Japanese Standards

To answer the subject question, one has to consider where they are from. In Japan, regardless of the style, format, and story, almost everything is an anime. From Dragon Ball to Bojack Horseman to Rick and Morty, everything they watch comes under the wide umbrella of Anime. Thus, if a man of Japanese origin was to watch Avatar The Last Airbender, they would essentially call it an anime. However, the case with a non-Japanese parameter would be different.

    Is Avatar An Anime

For Western Audience: Is Avatar An Anime?

By western standards, Avatar the Last Airbender would not be considered an anime. This is mainly because of how Anime is described in the western world. Well, the American standard does not consider any show that is outside of Japan as anime. So, Avatar is also out of the list. For them, the show is an animated series whose animation style closely resembles the style of Japanese anime. In addition, the animation style of the show is something that has created the entire confusion in the first place.

From the way in which the fighting sequences are stylized to the conceptualization, it is evident that Avatar the Last Airbender was heavily influenced by the anime of those times. However, no matter how similar both styles are, Avatar is not an anime. Shows like Rick and Morty, Bojack Horseman, and The Invincibles continue to spread in the mainstream.

But because they all draw origin from American creators, these cannot be considered anime. And if you do not believe our word, then the showrunners themselves have confirmed the same news in 2012. In an interview with IGN, the makers mentioned that they never created Avatar as an anime series. Thus, it should also not be considered one.

    Is Kakashi Dead?

For the fans who are yet to reach the part of the anime where Kakashi fights pain, then there is bad news for them. To answer the subject question in simple terms, yes, Kakashi Hatake does die in both anime and manga. It was in the Pain’s Assault Arc that Kakashi found himself in the middle of the most difficult fight of his career. Right after the Six Paths of Pain are able to decode the message left by Jiraiya, they come to the Hidden Leaf Village to capture the town.

However, standing in front of them was the shinobi they had already heard. Kakashi had single-handedly taken out some of most of the Paths. But during his fight with the Deva Path, the man realizes that he would have to take help from Asura Path in order to fight him. The fight stretched for a long time until Asura decided to commence a finishing move. In recuperate, Kakashi sent the projectile to a separate dimension.

But right before Kakashi could blow his final attack, Asura Path fired a nail right into his head. The nail ended up destroying his chakra altogether. As simple as the scene sounds, it was one of the most heartbreaking moments of Naruto history. As he lost his chakra, Kakashi could no longer sustain his life.

When Does Kakashi Die? Which Episode Features The Death?

The Kakashi Vs. Pain fight takes place between Naruto Episode 150 to Naruto Episode 160. And it was the 159th episode in which Kakashi lost his life at the hands of Pain. As for the manga, the death comes in the Pain’s Assault Arc of the story. Chapters 421 to 425 play out the fight between Kakashi and Pain. And so, it was the 427th chapter that showcased the death scene. However, a revival scene does follow this with Pain’s Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique.

    Will He Ever Come Back?

Kakashi’s Death has more reasoning to it than just the story. Author Masashi Kishimoto had clarified in multiple interviews that he was not very fond of Kakashi’s character. Thus, he had plans to kill the character soon in the story. Ever since the writer had made it clear, fans had been skeptical of the character’s death. For the longest time, there has been a long-stretched debate about the early death of the character.

But bringing back a dead character would only pose as fan service and would not be sincere with the story in any form. But fans always have the right to question the authors about whether a character would ever come back. So, is Kakashi Hatake coming back?

  • When Does Luffy Use Gear 4? Find Out The Episode Number!

When Does Luffy Use Gear 4: Monkey D. Luffy is easily the most likable and beloved shonen protagonist of all time. Over the last two decades, the hype around the character and his powers has only seemed to grow. Right from the beginning, it was evident that Luffy was on his way to becoming the Pirate King. However, both the manga and the anime have crossed that line and Luffy has still not gotten what he has been yearning for. But one thing that he does have is the Gear 4, the powerful fighting technique that leads him to get powers that can bring down the strongest villains like Kaido. So, when does Luffy use Gear 4? What Episode of One Piece shows this scene? Let’s find out.

It all started back when Luffy was a young meek boy. When he came across the devil fruit named Gomu Gomu no Mi, he devoured it without understanding the consequences of it. This was where he got his trademark rubber-like body for the rest of the story. But this devil fruit was not the only contributor in bringing the Gear 4 to his domain of power. In fact, this gear was a unique idea developed by Luffy himself. So, let’s find out the entire journey of this story.

When Does Luffy Use Gear 4

The Origin & Powers Of Gear 4

In concept, Gear is not limited to just weaponry and armor. Instead, gear is more of a fighting technique that a wielder develops in order to utilize his powers in the best possible way. Gear 4 is one such technique that Luffy had to come up with during a high-stake circumstance. With each gear, Luffy uses a different aspect of the Gomu Gomu no Mi devil fruit. In the Fourth Gear fighting technique, Luffy harnessed the powers of compression and elasticity to create high-impact attacks.

This, in turn, also provided speed and added strength. Not only this, but by filling up his muscles with air, Luffy can also create high-intensity shock waves and similar attacks that can push away even the largest of threats. As in the manga, Silvers Rayleigh had also pointed out that this was a smart way of using one’s elastic body to create stronger attacks. Now, as the main question, When Does Luffy Use Gear 4, comes, let’s dig deeper into the plot itself.

When Does Luffy Use Gear 4

When Does Luffy Use Gear 4?

Gear 4 was first seen in One Piece Episode 726 (manga: Chapter 783). The episode itself was titled “Gear Fourth! The Phenomenal Boundman!” As the title mentions, this episode showed the Boundman form of the technique. Doflamingo was the one facing Monkey D. Luffy at that time. To be certain, this was the Dressrosa Arc of OP. During the fight, Luffy filled his entire front with air turning his torso into a bloated shape. As he deflated with shock, he charged a punch right over Doflamingo, showing him stars for the rest of his life.

Besides this, there are two different forms of Gear 4 that have come in the anime so far. This includes the Tankman and the Snakeman forms. In the former, a similar shock attack is created, but with more force. However, the Tankman attack cannot be retained for longer than a few minutes. In contrast, the Snakeman Gear 4 attack consists of powering up the upper body to get the illusion of a giant man. This way, Luffy can create the effect that he is the stronger opponent.

When Does Luffy Use Gear 4

So, now you finally have the answer to when Luffy Used the Gear 4 in One Piece anime and manga. If there are any more questions related to the same, do share them with us in the comment box below. For more updates on such interesting OP theories, keep coming back to The Anime Daily.

  • What Does Geass Mean In Code Geass? All Powers Explained!

Code Geass is one of those anime that leaves the viewer in awe. The anime series rose to popularity because of its extremely smart main character and fascinating plot. People have always been fascinated by stories of revolution and overthrowing the government. Code Geass offers that and more. It gives viewers a mix of action-packed mecha, moral conflict, and supernatural tint. The supernatural aspect comes into the picture when C.C gives the Geass to Lelouch, making him the one who has “The Power of the Kings.” But what does Geass mean? How did Lelouch get it? Here is everything you need to know about the Geass in Code Geass.

Code Geass: How Did Lelouch Acquire The Geass?

Lelouch was just a student at the Ashford Academy. One day, he gets stuck in a crossfire between a group of rebellious ‘elevens’ and the Brittania’s force. He tries to escape but is unable to. Just when a Brittanian Royal Guard is about to kill him, C.C saves his life. It was revealed that C.C was a weapon under the Brittanian Government. She makes a contract with Lelouch and gives him a Geass. This is ‘Power of The Kings” which manifests itself as a glowing symbol in his eye. With this power, he can make anyone abide by him for just one time with direct eye contact.

    Code Geass

Code Geass: What Is A Geass?

As explained in the story, Geass is a special power that some people can give to other people. C.C. is usually the one who gives the Geass to others. This power is something close to a contract between the giver and the receiver. Geass manifests itself in many different ways. One theory states that it aligns itself to the person’s inner desires. However, the power of the Geass also increases every use. The user must have enough willpower to hold themselves in check. Otherwise, there is a high chance that the power will consume them. Mostly, Geass has to do with manipulating the mind. It affects the victim’s mind, memory, and perception.

The idea of Geass is likely from Irish and Welsh legends. “Geis” is a compulsion forced on someone. It restricts the victim and forces them to do or not do something. It’s not exactly an obligation but more of an external force briefly commanding an individual’s actions. This could have influenced the makers in making the characters come from the British region.

    Lelouch

Usually, the user takes time to get the perfect Geass without getting consumed. The perfect Geass is when the symbol manifests in both the eyes of the user. However, despite how strong the Geass is, it is not foolproof. There are instances in the show where people can resist it if they try hard enough and have a grudge against the user. Lelouch and Nunnally resisted their father’s Geass because they had resisted the false memories. This suggests that resisting the power of a Geass is a possibility.

Who Were The Past Users Of The King’s Power?

    • Lelouch’s Geass: Power Of The Kings

Lelouch’s Geass is the “Power of the Kings” or “The Power of Absolute Obedience.” To activate the Geass, he needs to have direct eye contact with an individual. He is then able to send direct commands to their brain. The user can use the Geass only once on an individual. Moreover, there is no time limit to this power. He ordered Suzaku to live, and Suzaku did till the end of the show. Lelouch is able to activate this power at will in the beginning. But as the power grows, he loses control of the Geass. Due to his excessive usage, the sigils become permanent in his eyes. He is later able to regain control.

    • Mao’s Geass: Seal of Absolute Sound

This Geass gave Mao the power to listen to a person’s thoughts using telepathy. If he concentrates on an individual, he can go deeper into their mind and access their memories. But if the person has forgotten it, he will not know. However, over usage of this power drove him to mental instability. This forced him to be aware of others’ thoughts without a break.

    Code Geass
    • Charles zi Brittania’s Geass: Memory Alteration

This is by far the most powerful Geass in the series. This power gives Charles the ability to erase, suppress and alter memories. If needed, he can make an individual forget that he had Geass, thereby making their Geass useless. V. V would have given him his Geass. He is able to also make severe alterations to physical senses like sight using his Geass.

    • C.C’s Geass: To Be Loved

C.C’s Geass gave her the power to be loved. Using it, she could make anyone fall in love with her. However, this Geass has been with her for a very long time. Eventually, it became permanently active, and both her eyes held it. But she later lost it.

    • Bismarck Waldstein’s Geass: Immediate Future

Using his Geass, Bismarck was able to see the immediate Future. It works very well in combat situations. The series tells us that his Geass is permanently active in one eye. This way, Bismarck could see the attacks coming and already prepare a counter.

    Lelouch
    • Marianne vi Britannia’s Geass: Cheat Death

This Geass could only be used when Marianne is dying. At the time of her death, she is able to transfer her soul and Geass into another person. Thus she can cheat death. She is able to use this and control the body of her victims.

    • Orpheus Zevon’s Geass: Become

This Geass offers the power to become anyone. The user is able to manipulate every single brain in a particular radius into perceiving them differently. However, this Geass does not work on a camera. Unfortunately, this Geass also has a time limit. It holds for only five minutes, then deactivates.

    • Shin Hyuga Shaing’s Geass: Die

This is arguably the next most powerful Geass. Shin is able to command the people he loves to kill themselves. His power is also unique because he didn’t perform any contracts with anyone. He got this power because he killed his father and the Geass offered itself to him.

    Code Geass

In short, Geass is a tool that gives its’ users immense powers over another’s or their own mind. It requires the sheer will not go insane. However, the powers it offers are limited and must be used judiciously. If you’d like to rewatch the Code Geass series, Netflix is streaming it. So, keep an eye on this space for more such articles.

  • Toradora Ending Explained: Why Did Taiga Leave School? Minori’s Dark Grief

Toradora Ending remains to be one of the most heartbreaking endings in anime history. On the brink of a few scenes, the narrative changed into something that no one was expecting. It is undeniable that Toradora is a flawed story, much like life itself. A lot goes on depending on how fans want to look at a certain conclusion. In the huge divide that was created by Toradora Ending, some fans loved the realistic ending of the show. Meanwhile, some of them were keen to notice the fatal flaw in the character arcs.

What adds to this is the fact that the ending of the anime was twitched from the original source. To date, fans continue to discuss and debate this decision of the studio. So, was it fair to give Minori’s character a sad ending? Plus, Taiga taking a leave for an entire year felt pushed and unnatural. So, let us discuss the ending of Toradora in context with both manga and the anime adaptation.

Toradora Ending: What Happened In The Anime?

After Minori decided to give up the love of her life for the sake of her best friend, everything did not go as she had planned. The love between Taiga and Ryuji did fester for a short while. But in the end, Taiga decided to leave Ryuji and went away for one year. This only added to Ryuji’s troubles even more. Even though he was a kind-hearted and generous boy, he had gone through a lot in his childhood.

When Ryuji’s mother was pregnant, his father had left the family. These abandonment issues have stayed with him since. And now that Taiga has also left him, Ryuji’s fear from the past will resurface once again. The probable reason for her departure was the fears that she had developed due to her traumatic past. Taiga had decided that she wanted to become worthy of Ryuji. And so, she ‘ghosted’ him without giving him a proper reason.

It was Taiga’s decision to fix her own life before starting a life with Ryuji comes as selfish. If she had been mindful enough, she would have chosen to work on herself while being with Ryuji. But she decided to do it all alone.

    How Did The Manga End?

The manga draws the plot directly from the light novel. However, it is notable that the original story took up a different ending than the author had planned. The anime concludes on high school graduation day. This was the final meeting between the two main leads. After this, she made the ultimate decision of leaving Ryuji. As for the light novel, Ryuuji had begun his third year in school. And the two met on their way to high school. It was only after this that they parted their ways in life.

This was the only minor change that was different from the anime. Aside from this, most of the events traced a similar path. However, many fans feel that the manga dealt with the story of separation way better than the anime itself. This was because the extended panels of the story were beautifully traced by the illustrator. Plus, the grief of separation was something that was expressed with precision in the manga.

    Toradora Ending

    Minori’s Sad Ending

Right from the beginning, fans had rooted for the character of Minori. Even though Taiga was completely opposite of her, she chose to be her friend till the end of the line. Their contrasting personalities complemented each other very well. However, Taiga was viewed through a sympathetic lens as she was the one who came from a damaged family. As for Minori, even after enduring the pain of losing a loved one, her story did not see a fair conclusion.

Some fans argue that in a flawed tale like Toradora, it was more than fair for one of the characters to go through this arc. Right from the beginning, it was evident that this was the fate that would befall them. But it was not expected that she would be the one to sacrifice the love of her life.

    Taiga’s Character Arc

Taiga’s departure from the love only goes to show that the story ended by completing her arc. The character’s purpose was not just to fall into the trope of a perfect story. Instead, Taiga, Ryuuji, and Minori were all flawed characters, and they were supposed to grow from the situations that they went through. In Taiga’s case, her entire arc was about outgrowing her own immaturity and fixing her family troubles.

    Toradora Ending

Ryuuji was only the push who would make her realize the importance of holding accountability in life. Thus, the act of leaving Ryuuji was temporary damage that would come in the way of mending her own life. Possibly after resolving the conflicts with her mother and her stepsisters, she would come back as a better person.

The decision was not about selfish ghosting or leaving her love stranded, it was more about finding wings. Taiga is now a confident woman who has taken charge of fixing things back home. As for Ryuuji, he will soon get back the love of his life. But it is undeniable that what happened to Minori was heartbreaking and will always remain that way.

    Black Clover Time Skip Explained

Black Clover manga first introduced a six months time skip in chapter 229. The manga did not show what happened in the six months and directly skipped past them. However, the anime expanded on the story and provided a bridge that built up the action for the time skip. These original episodes are known as the Devil Banishers Arc. The Devil Banishers Arc leads to one of the most important arcs in the story. Episode 158 titled, ‘hope and despair’ starts the Spade Kingdom arc.

Though six months is a short time, there were noticeable changes in the characters and their strength. The characters have been training with the mages of Heart Kingdom to fight against the Spade Kingdom and eventually the dark triad. The most noticeable change is in the protagonist Asta. Despite the training primarily focusing on the magic knights, Asta too had trained himself. He trained himself harder and got stronger. Because of this he can wield the Demon slayer world. Asta even fights Dante and defeats him with the help of Yami.

Will There Be A Second Black Clover Time Skip?

As with many shonen series like One Piece, Naruto, Black Clover might have another time skip in its future. Time skips are a great plot device that helps the development of the story and the characters. They skip over simple matters and leave space for more significant events. They are also a great way to introduce character changes and developments. In Black Clover, we see a major change in Asta after the time skip. Black Clover fans expressed shock over the huge changes in the character.

With the manga still ongoing, there is a lot of room for the manga to adapt a second-time skip. Especially after the introduction of Lucifero and his unbelievable power. Now would be the perfect time to introduce a second-time skip. During which the magic knights can train to become strong enough to defeat the King of the devils. Considering the recent updates and the latest developments from the manga. It can be assumed that the manga might have skipped a couple of years to the future.

The Black Clover Exhibition is a great way to predict the future of the story. The exhibition displays a collection of pictures and visuals from the story that usually foreshadow the events in the future. Black Clover fans quickly noticed some exciting developments in the display this time. The collection shows a before and after of the displayed events. First up is the Promise Panel; the promise panel shows the promise between a young Asta and Yuno. Their pact to become rivals and become the next wizard king. However, the word promise is burned and destroyed.

Along with the word promise, Yuno also gets burnt. Thus, this could hint that Yuno might claim the throne of Spade Kingdom. The second panel is the Pride Panel. At first, the collection shows King Julius and the eight magic knight captains. However, the later version misses two pictures of Yami and William. This can be due to the Dark Triad capturing the two captains. However, fans are expressing concern about whether this could mean the death of one of the characters. Next is the Complex panel, which shows Noelle in her fight against Vetto. Interestingly, the rest of the pictures featuring the black bulls also contain their fights with Vetto.

This hints at a huge fight between the black bulls and some new threat. The panel name Complex could be a nod to her ongoing struggle. The last panel contains portraits of the black bulls. Black Clover New Theory: A New Hidden Continent?

Another source of finding spoilers and hidden details are the opening of the Black Clover Anime. One interesting detail from the Black Clover Opening is the mysterious dark force invading the Spade kingdom. The internet has noted how the dark energy is attacking from above the spade kingdom. There is a space covered by clouds above the Spade Kingdom in the Black Clover Universe map. Many fans believe this to be a hidden land or continent that will be revealed in the coming chapters. There are two ways this land will be used in the story.

The first way is the most obvious one. Like in the previous time skip, the magic knights could use the land to train and get better. During their fight with Lucifero, the magic knights may face defeat or retreat to gain more power. The mysterious land above the spade kingdom offers a perfect location for the knights to move there and train themselves. On the other hand, as Lucifero is still manifesting, it could be that he is the one who moves there. Furthermore, the duration of a second-time skip allows him to complete his manifestation. And open the rest of the gates in the underworld. After which, he attacks with the rest of his demon army.
