Meaning Of Jougan

Let’s start things off with the literal meaning of Jougan. The anime series never mentioned it, but a panel in the manga series confirms that Jougan translates to “Pure Eye.” Now, the pure eye can have several different meanings, such as the eyes without any flaws or the eyes of God, etc. Initially, the fans mistaken Boruto’s Eye for Tenseigan, a dojustu wielded by Toneri Otsutsuki. However, an animator clarified that this blue-is white eye is neither Tenseigan nor Byakugan. Instead, it is a “Jougan” or simply a “Pure Eye.”

Boruto’s Eye or Jougan Origin

What is the origin of Boruto’s Eye or Jougan? Now this question has several different answers. No one in the series knows about the Jougan except for the Otsutsukis. They instantly recognized the Jougan that hinted that it might be an Old Kekkei Genkai like Sharingan and Byakugan. But at the same time, Jougan hasn’t been wielded by anyone in the history of shinobi, and that means only the members of the Otsutsuki clan are capable of wielding this power or knows how to activate this power. 

Theory 1

Many fans believe that Toneri Otsutsuki plays an important role in the origin of Jougan. In Naruto: The Last Movie, Toneri stole the Byakuan from Hanabi in order to awake his Tenseigan. This dojutsu was manifested by Hamura Otsuksuki himself. Hamura used Tenseigan to bring peace, but Toneri wanted to use it to bring salvation to humanity. Many people believe that Toneri altered Hinata’s DNA during their encounter in Naruto: The Last. Hence, they call Jougan a product of Byakugan and Tenseigan.

Some fans even believe Toneri himself granted Boruto with Jougan in order to continue his legacy. In Boruto Episode 8, Toneri appeared in Boruto’s dream, where he talked about Jougan. He called his eye the “Star of Hope” and revealed that the power of Jougan will go against the destruction that is yet to come. Initially, Boruto mistook his Jougan as Byakugan. 

Theory 2

The second theory is quite simple, actually. According to this one, Jougan is simply a product of biology. Since Boruto is the son of Naruto and Hinata, he got the unique chakra from the Hyuga Clan and Uzumaki Clan. The fans already know that Hyuga’s Princess receives chakra directly from Hamura. On the other hand, during the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto got the chakra from Hamura’s twin brother Hagoromo. So, many fans believe that Boruto’s Eye is the natural manifestation of Naruto and Hinata’s unique chakra inside Boruto. 

Jougan’s Power & Abilities

All the powers and abilities of Jougan are yet to be revealed in the series. But sooner or later, it will become one of the most overpowered Dojutsus. Some fans even think that Jougan is quite more powerful than Tenseigan and Rinnegan. Boruto’s Eye or Jougan can sense and see different kinds of chakras. With the help of Jougan, Boruto can sense the presence of an ominous chakra inside anyone. However, he hasn’t gained control of this ability yet, and it activated automatically around dangerous elements. 

The second ability of Jougan is reasonably related to Byakugan. Boruto’s Eye allows him to see the pathway system of the chakra. With its help, Boruto can spot vital chakra points as well. Also, Boruto can see the invisible b barriers that connect different dimensions. He also managed to influence the dimensional portal when he encountered Sumire Kakei. 

Momoshiki also predicted that those Blue eyes of Boruto would take everything from him. It is still unclear why Momoshiki said this, but the fans speculated that it is related to his Jougan. He convinced Itachi to wipe out his entire clan in order to save the life of his beloved little brother Sasuke Uchiha. At that time, Itachi was working as a spy for Danzo and revealed to him that Uchiha Clan was planning a coup d’etat due to all the discrimination they faced in the village.

Danzo took advantage of this situation and manipulated Itachi that this coup would result in a civil war among the residents of Konohagakure. Being his superior, Danzo forced Itachi to massacre the Uchiha clan in order to save his village and his little brother. 

Naruto: Why Itachi Killed The Uchiha Clan? 

The reason behind Itachi killing the Uchiha clan wasn’t his cold blood. Neither did he want to test his abilities. The elders of Konoha forced this heart-wrenching mission on Itachi in order to maintain the peace in the village. Itachi Uchiha was there when the Third Great Ninja war broke out. He even tried to save a life during the war, but the very guy attacked him. As a result, from the very beginning, Itachi Uchiha hated wars. It all started with a revolution by Madara Uchiha. The Nine-tailed Fox incident was also enough to convince everyone that the Uchihas are a threat. However, in the end, he failed and committed suicide. It was the very moment when Itachi awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan. Itachi was given this mission as he was the only one who could do it without disturbing the peace in the village. Most of the fans already guessed by its head name that he is related to Megumi Fushiguro. Toji is one of the prominent members of the Zenin clan. Toji Fushiguro: Introduction

Toji Fushirguro is a member of the Zenin clan and is an enemy of Gojo Satoru. He was introduced in the manga right after the Death Painting arc that will now take place in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. Appearance-wise, Toji is a tall, muscular man with mid-length hair. He has green eyes and a scar on the right of his mouth, just next to his lips. Moreover, Toji Fushiguro is the father of Megumi Fushiguro and serves as the main antagonist of the past arc of his son’s mentor, Gojo Satoru.

Just like Maki, Toji was also born without any curse energy, and hence he couldn’t see any curse as well. However, he was blessed with raw power, severe strength, speed, and agility in exchange. In 2006, when he was a non-curse user assassin, Toji was contracted by Time Vessel Association. 

Personality Of The Infamous Sorcerer Killer Of Jujutsu Kaisen

Toji Fushiguro is the confident type of man who uses his skills to make money. He is also one of the coldest and most calm characters of Jujutsu Kaisen. He can even match the sarcasm level of beings like Gojo Satoru. Whenever Toji fights a battle, he enjoys himself, and the same can be seen in expressions as well. However, at the same time, he maintains a cool and can also plot the entire battle in his mind. Toji Fushiguro is a renowned assassin that earned the nickname “Sorcerer Killer.”

He can kill anyone for the right amount of money without any second thought. Toji’s strategies are quite lethal, and he has the ability to outwit most of the skilled sorcerers. Since Toji is also a non-sorcerer in a sorcerer family, he suffered a lot. His ominous actions are a result of his sorrow towards the Jujutsu world. 

How Did Toji Zenin Become Toji Fushiguro

Toji Zenin was raised a non-sorcerer in one of the three greatest families. As a result, he had to go through a lot of things, just like Maki Zenin. After some time, Toji left the Zenin clan and became an assassin. Soon, he found a woman and married her. The head of that woman was Fushiguro. Since then, he changed his name to Toji Fushiguro. However, Toji left the woman right after he gave birth to Megumi. Not only that, but he even planned to sell his own son to the Zenin clan so that they could exploit the young Megumi for the cursed energy that he would eventually acquire. 

Toji Fushiguro: Power & Abilities

Despite being a non-curse user, Toji is one of the most elite fighters in the saga of Jujutsu Kaisen. His physical prowess was superior to every single opponent he faced so far. During his lifetime, Toji Fushiguro defeated special grade curse users on three different occasions. One among them was none other than Gojo Satoru. However, Gojo was only a high-school student at that time, but he was still considered as one of the strongest sorcerers. Toji also defeated Suguru Geto, and that too without any lethal damage. Toji inherited all the knowledge of the Jujutsu world from the Zenin, and he used this knowledge to create his strategies while fighting with Jujutsu sorcerers.

There was an occasion when Toji defeated a Six Eyes user with god-like perception by pulling off a surprise attack. Toji Fushiguro was powerful enough to stand against the Limitless technique of Satoro Gojo. Even against a technique this powerful, Toji managed to find a way to launch a counterattack. Only the secret Hollow Purple technique of Gojo was lethal enough to take down Toji. The Zenin Clan doesn’t have any knowledge of this technique, and hence when Gojo used it in the battle, it came as a surprise for him.  

Cursed Tools Wielded By The Sorcerer Killer

Along with the Sorcerer Killer, Toji Fushiguro was also renowned as the Master Weapon Specialist. He can wield a variety of cursed weapons in the battle. His fighting style is totally depending on the use of these weapons as he can substitute Jujutsu with his attacks using the cursed tools. Not only cursed tools, but Toji used non-cursed weapons as well so that the opponent couldn’t detect any cursed energy. Japanese Broadsword, Inverted spear of Heaven, Chain of Thousand Miles, and Playful Cloud are some tools he liked to use the most.

Among all these tools, the Japanese Broadsword is Toji Fushiguro’s primary choice of weapon. Toji Fushiguro already made his final appearance in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series. However, he is yet to appear in the anime. Thus, fans can expect Toji Fushiguro to see in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 in the past arc of Gojo Satoru. 

Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese supernatural dark fantasy manga series. Gege Akutami began its serialization in 2018. Also, the word Kaisen is shorter than its translation. As a result, the makers decided not to translate its title. The overall meaning of Jujutsu Kaisen can also be defined as the manipulation of opponents’ force against themselves in a sorcery fight.

The sorcery in Jujutsu Kaisen means the manipulation and modification of the cursed energy, and it is the foundation of the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. In Japan, there is another term, “Jjujutshiki,” which translates to cursed energy. So, it is likely that Gege Akutami learned everything before using “Jujutsu Kaisen” as the title. As the concept of this show is also based on the cursed energy.

The term Jujutsu also refers to a martial arts system in Japan. It is a close-range combat technique that is effective in both offense or defense. It was developed for the combat of the feudal lord in Japan. There, one fights with armed or armored opponents with bare hands or short weapons. This technique includes efficient methods in order to neutralize the enemy. Moreover, it includes moves like joint locks, throws, and pins.

Jujutsu is a technique that is based on the principle of using one’s energy against themselves in combat. Since this supernatural dark fantasy also follows the same concept, Gege Akutami decided to name it Jujutsu Kaisen.

ujutsu Kaisen is a dark fantasy manga series by Gege Akutami. He began its serialization on March 5, 2018, and has released a total of 17 volumes so far. It is still on the run and treating fans with new chapters every single week. The manga quickly raised to fame due to its brilliant content, and hence MAPPA picked it up for an anime adaptation.
